Confirmation

THE CONFIRMATION JOURNEY

New class forming September 2012

Confirmation is a serious undertaking.  In confirmation a young woman or young man reaffirms the vows made by parents at the time of Baptism.  It is a time to say seriously that AI believe in God, the Holy Spirit and Jesus.  I believe that Jesus is both Savior and Lord and I intend to follow Jesus as a disciple.@  It is also the process by which our young people become members of Peace UCC.  We take this aspect of confirmation seriously.  Our expectation is that they will participate in the life of this congregation both during and after confirmation.

There are some expectations that come with the confirmation process.

1.  Attendance at the regular weekly meetings.

2.  Regular Sunday school attendance.  This year, the class will be studying the life of Jesus.  This is material they will not be getting in Confirmation Class, so this is an important part of their confirmation year.

3. Regular worship attendance (including Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and/or Good Friday and Easter Sunday).  They will receive worksheets for worship notes.  Parents are expected to attend with their children.

4.  Participation in worship (possibilities: liturgist, usher, help with children=s time.)

5.  Participation in field trips and other scheduled “events”.

6.  Write a personal Statement of Faith and present it to the Council and congregation.

7. 15 service hours in and around Peace UCC.  [The fair stand is a great way to jump start your hours!!]

There will be regular homework assignments (these should take 20 to 30 minutes per week) in addition to the requirements listed above.  Missed sessions must be made up with take-home assignments.  Please let Pastor Marty know in advance, when a session will be missed or if help is needed with the homework.  Some of the assignments will require parental participation.

Confirmation is meant to be a time to think about faith issues and God’s part in our lives.  We take it seriously, but also expect this to be an enjoyable time for discovery and growth.

Congratulations to the 2010 – 2011 class – Erin, Elena, Morgan, and Dalton.
