About Peace UCC

On Sunday, the 26 th of October 1902, a small group of people met and declared themselves ready to organize an evangelical, Protestant church in Shawano, Wisconsin. Since that humble beginning, Peace United Church of Christ has worshiped together, studied scripture together, prayed together, played together and struggled together in an effort to witness faithfully and effectively to the love of God made known to us in Jesus.

Through the years Peace UCC has been blessed with many faithful members and talented leaders. Peace UCC strives to be faithful to its call to promote growth in discipleship as followers of Jesus and to reach out in caring concern to its members and to the community. We encourage the involvement of all in the experience of worship, the practice of discipleship, and the work of ministry and mission.

A wise layperson from a UCC church in Arizona says this about her life: “Once I think I have it all figured out, God inserts a comma that makes me pause, breathe, reassess and refocus.”* We at Peace UCC understand that the church must be constantly open to the movement of God’s Spirit and the new things God has in mind for us. We strive to pause, breathe, reassess and refocus as God’s Spirit moves us and our ministry toward the future.

*Carla Koening, UCC layperson Tucson, Arizona; quoted from UCC Annual Report 2003.

About the United church of Christ

“The United Church of Christ came into being in 1957 with the Union of two Protestant denominations: The Evangelical and Reformed Church and the Congregational Christian Churches. Each of these was in turn, the result of the union of two earlier denominations. Through the years, members of other groups have joined with the four earlier groups. Thus the UCC celebrates and continues a wide variety of traditions in its common life.” (From UCC - Who We Are - What We Believe, United Church Press, 1993)
