Women’s group

In November our NEW WOMEN’S GROUP tested their creative abilities as we made Christmas cards. Packets of these cards will be delivered to our homebound members (with stamped envelopes) so they can send them to their friends and family. Those who do not receive packets will receive a hand made card as a Christmas a greeting.

In DECEMBER (Saturday December 10, 2011 – 10:00 a.m.) our group will be having a birthday party for members – including a very special member of our group – JESUS. This is a time for celebration and fun. In honor of our guest of honor each person who attends is asked to bring non-perishable food items – enough to make a meal for a family. These donations will be given to SAFPARC (Shawano Area Food Pantry and Resource Center) for distribution.

Pieces by Peace~ Quilting Group

PIECES BY PEACE

See our Banner/Quilt – joint project of Peace UCC Sunday school and Pieces by Peace Quilters – in lower Fellowship Hall

Another year of celebrating the birth of Jesus, God on earth, has just finished. Pieces by Peace also will be celebrating, the beginning of our fourth year as a quilting group. As you may already know, these dedicated quilters have made quilted lap covers (prayer shawls) for members and friends of Peace UCC, Shawano Hospice and Maple Lane. I receive by e-mail the Daily Devotions from the UCC “God is Still Speaking” ministry. Recently, there was a devotion entitled, “Knitting Prayer Shawls and Baby Bootees.” Here is an excerpt from that devotion: “I still have the prayer shawl I received from my current church when I was sick, and I still have the prayer shawl I received from my former church when my mother passed away. I went on to inherit the prayer shawl her church made for her when she first fell ill. They all lie around my house as extra blankets in the family room, ordinary objects infused with prayer in the midst of our ordinary lives. . . .there is no question in my mind that [my mother’s prayer shawl] was a conduit of healing. It remains a symbol to me of how all our churches are knit together by the Holy Spirit. . . .It seems that people have been knitting [quilting] for one another forever, perhaps ever since God, the original knitter [quilter], knit each one of us together in our mother’s womb. So indeed, we are wonderfully made.” May the Holy Spirit continue to bless the work of Pieces by Peace.

Pieces by Peace meets every Friday at 1:00 p.m. in the Great Room. You are welcome to stop by and visit or join us anytime.

Quilting can be addictive!

PRAYER CHAIN!

The missions committee has begun a prayer chain. The purpose of the chain is to spread the love of God for all people by praying for the needs of others!  Anyone who feels the need for a prayer may contact Pastor Marty, Ken Gleesing or the church office (526-2916).  This is a great way to develop and grow your prayer life, connect with your church family and deepen your relationship with God.

Wish List

Persons wishing to give memorials or honorariums to Peace United Church of Christ may designate funds to any ongoing ministry account [Sunday School (church camp scholarship are paid from this fund), Youth, Missions, etc.] or for the purchase of one of the following items:

1.   relocation of sound system to the sanctuary

2.   permanent installation of media projection equipment

3.   Roof

At our congregational meeting on Sunday, July 12, 2009 we voted to replace the two flat sections of our church roof.  The roof work is now complete.  The original plan was to pay for the roof over a period of three years.  We have collected over two thirds  of the amount needed to date.  Thank you to all who have made such generous contributions.
