The Ministry of Music at Peace UCC has but
one purpose – to glorify God through the use of vocal and
instrumental music. Membership in the Celebration Choir is open to all
persons interested in preparation and performance. (It also helps if you
can sing.)
The Sunday School choir learns special
hymns and songs as part of their chapel services each week. This choir
sings for services periodically throughout the year.
INSTRUMENTAL
Chime Choir membership is also open to all
parties interested in the instrumental phase of music. This choir rehearses
on Wednesday evenings at 5:30 p.m. and performs several times during the
church year.
The use of instruments within the service
is encouraged. Anyone who plays an instrument is encouraged to share
his/her gifts to augment the musical potion of our worship.
THE ORGAN
The prime purpose of the organ is to support,
lead, and inspire the congregation and choir in prayer and praise through
song to the glory of God. There is a vast treasure of service music within
the Christian Church and the organ is used to present this music for
worship.
The organ at Peace UCC was built by the
Wicks Organ Co., Highland
Ill., in 1971. It has 26
stops, 16 ranks, chimes, 4-bell Zimbelstern, 966 pipes varying in size from
two inches to 16 feet in height. The console conforms to AGO (American
Guild of Organists) specifications. Tonal scaling was done by John
Sperling, tonal director at Wicks, and the stop list by Elmer F. Ackermann,
Minister of Music for the church.
The instrument has three divisions, Great,
Swell, and Pedal. Each division has its own independent ensemble. The organ
is voiced on 2 inch wind pressure with the exception of the reed which is
on 4 inch pressure. The organ is free standing and speaks directly into the
Nave of the church. The visible pipes are those of the Great and Pedal
divisions.
